DPP Ready For Dialogue With Opposition
Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has said it is ready to initiate dialogue with opposition political parties in the country.
The remarks come after two months of political instability following the May 21st disputed presidential elections.
Speaking at a rally held in Ndirande, Blantyre, DPP Vice President for the South Kondwani Nankhumwa, said as he appreciates that it is a constitutional right to demonstrate, violence has negatively affected the country’s economy.
Nankhumwa who is also Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development said for the sake of the country to move forward he is ready to initiate dialogue.
“I call upon civil society organizations and prominent political leaders to set a leading role in bringing together concerned parties to a round table discussion,” Nankhumwa said
Meanwhile, Human Rights Defenders Coalition said they will be holding mass demonstration every Tuesday and Friday until chairperson of Malawi Electoral Commission Justice Dr Jane Ansah SC resigns.
