Department of Metrological Services downplays fears of cyclone Freddy damages

Department of Climate Change and Metrological Services has downplayed fears of possible damages caused by impending cyclone Freddy in Malawi.

According to spokesperson of the department, Yobu Kachiwanda, the cyclone which is expected to make landfall in Mozambique on Thursday and Friday does not pose a threat to Malawi as anticipated.

Kachiwanda says, cyclone Freddy, is over Madagascar and weaker as it enters Mozambique coast around Beira therefore will not have a direct impact on Malawi.

However, Kachiwanda, says the country will continue receiving rains in some districts caused by Intertropical Convergence Zones ICZ.
