CSO’s welcome ruling on Lake Malawi Water Project

Civil society organizations CSO’s have said it is time to let the Lake Malawi water supply project to take off.

Centre for Women Empowerment, FND, HRCC, Professional Women Network and CAYO said the ruling of Malawi Supreme Court is good news for citizens of Lilongwe and surrounding districts.

“The water supply project is an opportunity to address water problems affecting 1.4 million people in Lilongwe and over 1 million in surrounding areas,” stressed the CSO’s.

The five CSO’s have urged the state president to provide direction on the project as this is of national interest and development.

According to the Supreme Court Khato Civil contractors has already spent 14.6 billion kwacha therefore if it pulls out of the project Malawians will be liable to compensate plus interest.
