Chisankho Watch records 11 critical irregularities in voter registration

Chisankho Watch says it recorded 11 critical incidences during the second phase of voter registration that can undermine integrity of electoral process and constitutes voter rivalry

Addressing reporters chairperson of Chisankho Watch Bishop Gilford Matonga says key among them were continued undue coercion of people to register

Matonga cited incidences in Kasungu, Mchinji south west and Nkhatabay central where government officials invited all chiefs to Kasungu stadium to collect names of their subjects to benefit from social programs based on their registration and paying cash handouts of 1000 kwacha

He added that in some registration centres officials of National Registration Bureau were not registering new voters, more persons were turned away and lack of inclusivity of people with disabilities

Matonga also said the coercion of eligible voters to register happened in Nkhotakota salima and Ntchisi
