Children call Government to establish Rehabilitation Centers
Children in Machinga have called on government to establish rehabilitation centers in the district where children who have gone through abuse should seek assistance
The call was made during official closing of 2023 children’s parliament session for Machinga district organized by World Vision
According to Children’s representative Linda Manase it has been observed that children in the district are facing different abuses noting over 1461 cases have been registered only this year by the district
Responding to the call deputy minister of local government unity and culture Owen Chomanika while committing to take the matter to the ministry of Gender said government is prepared to provide what is needed as long as it gives what government is desiring to see on welfare of children in the country being promoted
On his part world vision zonal associate director responsible for southern region operation Takondwa Mwale expressed the need for creating spaces for children like organizing children parliament where they will be able to speak issues affecting them and including them into the processes of developmental activities so that their voices matter
Meanwhile Traditional Authority Mposa said traditional leaders in the district have endorsed by laws which among others will help to promote and safeguard rights of children in the district
