Chief, clerk arrested for selling id registration forms
A chief and National Registration Bureau clerk have been arrested for allegedly selling the forms meant for the ongoing national id registration exercise in Dowa.
The incident happened at Chuzu Registration Centre in TA Mkukula in the district.
According to Dowa police station public relations officer, Sergeant Richard Kaponda, the clerk Micheal Mbalame and village headman Kanyamba, agreed to sell the forms to villagers at a price which the police is still investigating.
“When the police received a tip from well-wishers, they rushed to the scene and upon arrival people who were buying the forms run away leaving the village head and the clerk,’ Kaponda said.
He said when police asked what they were doing, the two denied selling the forms saying were distributing for free.
“The two appeared before Dowa second grade magistrate court where they denied the charge,” added Kaponda.
Second Grade Magistrate, Ezekiel Kantikana has withdrawn the case temporarily because the state failed to get the witness since all people who were buying the forms run away.
