CFTC fines MBS, DRTSS over number plates contract
Competition and Fair Trading Commission CFTC has fined Malawi Bureau of Standards MBS and Directorate of Road Traffic and Safety Services DRTSS for uncompetitive conduct in the importation of blank number plates.
A statement signed by CFTC Director Apoche Itimu says the uncompetitive conduct was discovered in its investigations following the complaint by Bulldog Company which is one of the bidders of the contract to supply the blank number plates
Itimu says DRTSS and MBS erred by permitting MOVESA Company to supply 65000 blank number plates which were of substandard as was the case with those supplied by other companies
Therefore CFTC has ordered the two government institutions to desist from uncompetitive conduct and ant corruption bureau to investigate corrupt practices in the awarding of the contract to MOVESA
