British lawmakers call on Foreign Secretary to impose “comprehensive sanctions” on Israel

More than 60 British lawmakers from across seven parties have called on British Foreign Secretary David Lammy to impose “comprehensive sanctions” on Israel over its “repeated violations of international law.”

Organized by lawmakers Richard Burgon and Imran Hussain, the letter was sent to Lammy on Wednesday night

The letter cited the International Court of Justice (ICJ)’s advisory opinion from July, which declared Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories unlawful and demanded the Tel Aviv regime end the occupation immediately.

The letter reads that the court also found that all states, including the UK, have obligations to not recognize as legal the situation arising from the unlawful presence of Israel in the occupied Palestinian territory and to not render any aid or assistance in maintaining this

During the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, known in Israel as the Six Days War, Israel occupied East al-Quds and the West Bank, and has housed more than 700,000 Israelis in some 280 settlements in occupied Palestinian territories since then.
