Angry People attack Mozambican, Malawian Police at Nayuchi

Angry people in Nayuchi have set on fire Mozambican and Malawian police property as well as beat Mozambican police officers over the death of Malawian suspect

It is reported that on 10th January 2025 Nayuchi Police post arrested an ex-convict Samalani Waliwa aged 31 for offences of unlawful wounding in Malawi and two breaking offences in Mozambique

The case committed in Malawi was withdrawn by the complainant on 12th January but inter lagos police requested Nayuchi police to hand him over to Mozambican police

The suspect was collected by two Mozambican police officers but the time he left was in good condition

Surprisingly on 13th January Mozambican police reported at Nayuchi police that the suspect was found dead in their custody

Ten Mozambican police officers were sent to Nayuchi police to convey the message through two Mahindra motor vehicles

TA Mchinguza, chief Chakhame and relatives were informed but requested for a postmortem to know the actual cause of the death

As discussions were still underway residents around nayuchi police got the news and mobilise themselves, damaging Mozambican vehicles and beating the police officers who escaped through the office’s rear door

They also torched a vehicle belonging to Nayuchi police, motorcycles, bicycles and finally set on fire Nayuchi police post

The angry people later targeted the house of officer in charge, stealing there undisclosed property

No death or serious injuries were registered on the police officers and their families.
