Malawians not satisfied with government efforts on corruption-Afro barometer survey finds

Afro barometer survey has found that Malawians are not satisfied with government efforts on corruption and want to see swift action against corrupt officials

Released by centre for social research the survey shows that most Malawians say government is doing a poor job of fighting corruption and should immediately fire cabinet ministers as well as other officials accused of graft.

The findings indicate that most Malawians believe corruption increased over the past year and police continue to top the chart of offices as well as institutions perceived as corrupt

Joseph Chunga of centre for social research say “only small majority of Malawians believe they can report corruption to authorities without fear of retaliation.”

The survey adds that a slimmer majority say suspects who refund proceeds from corruption should be granted amnesty

In conclusion centre for social research says a government that campaigned on zero tolerance for corruption and a country badly in need of resources to improve service delivery, these findings represent a renewed call to action

1200 adult Malawians were interviewed in February 2022 and round 9 surveys of 2021 to 2022 are currently underway
