ADMARC to reopen Friday, Maize Price at K790/KG
Ministry of agriculture has announced that ADMARC markets will reopen this Friday 13th September with maize selling at new price of 790 kwacha per kilogram
According to secretary for agriculture Dixie Kampani this translates to 39, 000 kwacha per 50 kilogram bag lower than the current price of 50, 000 kwacha in areas experiencing critical shortage of the commodity
Kampani says this pricing strategy is designed to provide affordable access to maize for Malawians especially those facing economic challenges
To ensure availability of maize throughout the country ADMARC will distribute an initial 10 000 metric tons of maize across its network of markets
The secretary for agriculture says this distribution will prioritize hardest hit areas mainly in southern region and some lakeshore and later to expand to other regions to prevent food shortage
Meanwhile, government has released 45000 metric tons of maize through department of disaster management affairs for communities in need of timely assistance.
