Ex- Malawi Young Pioneers disown petition

Ex- Malawi Young Pioneers (MYP) have distanced themselves from a petition that was presented to the district commissioner’s office in Lilongwe.
Speaking to reporters in Lilongwe, National coordinator for the Ex-MYP, Grey Chisale, said the group that presented the petition which is led by Hendrix Chijota is misrepresenting facts and misleading ex MYP in the villages.
Chisale said “the group which is calling itself victims of operation Bwezani is not recognized by government and issues presented in the petition are a total misrepresentation of facts on the ground.”
Among others, the petition has given President Peter Mutharika 14 days to act on their grievances.
The group is demanding compensation for premature retirement and investigate government officials for alleged swindling of money that was meant for ex- MYPs.
However, Chisale said the group has ulterior motives and its demands should not be taken seriously as it is not aware that government follows stated procedures when releasing cash.
The MYP which was known for notorious acts during the one party era was forcefully dissolved in 1994 an operation commonly known as Operation Bwezani.
Many MYP member were injured, others suffered loss of property whilst others went in hiding.
