Ministry rejects ant-quota movement claims on secondary second selection

Ministry of education, science and technology has rejected claims by ant-quota movement that it favored students from southern region in second selection to secondary schools

Speaking during a press briefing in Lilongwe Minister responsible William Susuwele Banda said during the selection they used merit not economic and proximity principles.

He informed the public that Machinga district boarding secondary school which has just been constructed with funding from Malawi government will also be opened on Monday 13th January.

“The Ministry has selected form 1 and 2 students who are expected to report for classes on the day,” Susuwele Banda said

The Minister then declared the re-opening of 4 secondary schools that were closed last year due to students’ indiscipline.

He has called on parents and guardians to counsel their children to refrain from vandalizing school property when there are disagreements with management.

Susuwele Banda further advised the students to avoid destroying school property when they have issues to avoid closing of the schools.
