Malawi candidates Survey for 2019 report has shown that an average of parliamentary candidates in tripartite elections used over 14 million kwacha

Speaking during the launch of the report assistant professor in the department of political science from Michigan State University, Micheal Wahman said they questioned different candidates across Malawi.

He said they found that most of the candidates utilized their own money which was hard for the poor people to join politics.

“Malawi has to start thinking about solutions to the problems that candidates face,” Wahman said

In her remarks, second deputy Speaker of parliament Aisha Mambo Adams, agreed with the findings of the report saying it is really very costly for one to become a member of parliament.
