Government to distribute relief maize in all districts
Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DODMA) says will distribute relief maize in all 28 districts of the country.
This has come afterMalawi Vulnerability Assessment Committee (MVAC) Annual Report projected that over 1 Million people will be at risk of food insecurity in 27 districts during the 2019/2020 lean season.
Speaking during a press briefing secretary to vice president and commissioner for Disaster Management Affairs, Wilson Moleni said DODMA has facilitated development of 2019 to 2020 Lean season Food Insecurity Response Plan to mobilize resources, coordinate and guide implementation of humanitarian assistance.
“The exercise is targeting all districts following calls for urgent relief food assistance from district councils and recommendations made at national Disaster Preparedness and relief committee’s Emergency meeting,” said Moleni
He said the total requirement is 8 thousand, 1 hundred and 29 metric tons which is 162 thousand 50 Kilograms bags of maize valued at 1.7 Billion Kwacha.
“We have already started providing some districts with maize, rice and cash,” Moleni added
He then warned that those who have crooked intentions over this noble cause will face the law.
