Communities Complain African Parks Abuse
Member of Parliament for Mangochi Masongola has expressed concern over mistreatment which people of his constituency are receiving from officials of African national parks in Livingstonia Mountain in the area.
Ishmael Grant told Radio Islam that people who work at the park abuse the villagers by ordering them to fight one another in order to collect firewood.
Grant said “that government surrendered the mountain on an international company so that it should help in improving social activities of people living in the area but is doing the opposite.”
However, he said as leader of the constituency he will find lasting solution to the matter.
Responding Community extension manager for African parks David Nangoma has dismissed the issue as untrue.
Nagoma said villagers are allowed entry into the mountain to collect firewood.
