CSO’s Intervene In MCHS Closure
Civil Society Organizations CSO’s have intervened in the closure of Malawi College of Health sciences.
Speaking during a press conference organized by Youth and Society YAS executive director of civil society education coalition CSEC Benedicto Kondowe said it is unfortunate that students at the college have not been learning for a long time.
Kondowe said “the organizations have joined hands to help the students get back their right to education.”
Meanwhile, Industrial relations court has granted injunction to welfare committee of Malawi College of health sciences restraining the board from proceeding with its threats.
According to Registrar the court has granted the injunction upon hearing counsel for the applicants.
“The college threatened that if the chairperson of the committee and members do not call off the strike by 5th August it will withhold their remunerations, treating them as having absconded from work, treating them as having left the employment of the college or acting on the board’s letter dated 22nd July 2019,”reads court document
The court says if the respondents disobey the order they may be found guilty of contempt of court whose punishment is imprisonment, fine or assets seized.
