Forum for Concerned Women Condemns Ant-Ansah Demonstrations
A group of women calling themselves Forum for Concerned Women has voiced out and condemned the demonstrations targeting Chairperson for Malawi Electoral Commission Justice Dr Jane Ansah.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Blantyre, National Coordinator for the forum, Seod White, said women in the country have been following the matter with keen interest and they have found that it is violence against women.
White said time has come for the women to come out and stand for Dr Ansah because what is happening now is disrespecting all women.
“It is of this background they will conduct peaceful solidarity march to show their anger that they are not happy with what is happening to Dr Ansah,” said White
Commenting on the matter Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, Mary Navicha, said Dr Ansah worked professionally and calling for the resignation is a violation of her right as a citizen of the country.
Navicha however called all women of good will to participate in the march scheduled of Wednesday July 10, 2019.
Meanwhile, political analyst Humphrey Mvula says it is sad that Dr Jane Ansah related demonstrations has taken a gender perspective.
Speaking to radio Islam, Mvula said “those calling for her resignation have never done so on gender basis but their dissatisfaction with the way the elections were handled.”
Mvula has meanwhile asked government through the ministry of gender to avoid politicizing the issue but promote inclusiveness by simmering the tension.
