UNIMA Muslim Students Hold Career Talks

Muslim Students Associations at University of Malawi have guided Muslim students in Mangochi on careers.

Speaking during career guidance talks for form three and four students in the district organized by Al-Barakah Charity Trust former vice chairperson of Polytechnic Muslim Students Association Jaffalie James said the number of Muslim students in Public Universities is not pleasing.

James cited a population of over 4000 Muslim students at the polytechnic but less than 200 Muslims students.

“Though we are happy that Muslims are being selected to University of Malawi we’re not pleased with the number considering the population of Muslims in the country,” James said.

He encouraged Muslims students to prioritize the selection to public universities in the country.

In his remarks former chairperson of College of Medicine Muslim students Association COM-MSA Yassin Ntenje said “out of 1500 students at the institution less than 100 are Muslims.”

Commenting, programs manager for Mangochi Development Education Centre under Al-barakah Charity Trust sheikh Abubakar

Kananji said they conduct such gatherings every year to motivate Muslim students in their education.

“Al-Barakah Charity Trust conducts such meetings every year but this we thought of bringing new people so that Muslim students can be motivated,” Sheikh Kananji said.
