Muslim parents encouraged to educate children

Muslims parents in Lilongwe district have been advised to encourage their children to work hard in both Islamic and secular studies in order to become productive citizens.

The call was made by various Islamic leaders during Madrasah closing ceremony in Chinsapo Area.

Speaking at the event, a Teacher of Alibarajatu Islamic Academy Sheikh Daud Amali Lulanga said the event was very important because children were able to express what they have been learning in class.

Sheikh Lulanga said the center which has 250 students managed to send some students to Blantyre Islamic Mission (BIM) and Balaka Islamic Centre.

“The school faces numerous challenges such as shortage of books and classrooms as well as harmful cultural practices such as Gule wamkulu,” Sheikh Lulanga said

Commenting, Sheikh Kasimu Chikwakwa Executive director of Ambia Foundation said Muslims should establish more Islamic centres in various areas.

In his remarks, one of the role models at the event Sergeant Jackson Kananji from Malawi Defense Force Chilumba Barracks said “children should not look down upon themselves but work hard in all areas.”

One of the parents Isumaila Alani said they will send their children to school and Madrasah as their children have acquired Islamic knowledge because they read Qur’an.
