Robbers of Cancer Detecting Machine jailed to 9 years
Two men who robbed Dr Briony Acroyd a breast cancer detecting machine and other belongings have been sentenced to 9 years imprisonment with hard labour.
Geoffrey Chinyama and Laiton Juma were arrested after well wishers tipped Ulongwe police in Balaka.
They stole the ultra sound machine on 8th February when Dr Acroyd a cancer surgeon at Queen Elixabeth Central hospital together with a doctor from South Africa were going to Mangochi to attend to patients showing signs of cancer.
The Robbery happened when some villagers were trying to rescue them after their vehicle was stuck in mud due to a rainstorm along Liwonde-Mangochi road.
Geofrey Chinyama 31 and Laiton Juma 22 come from Saliwa village TA Kalembo in Balaka district.
They will appear in court soon to answer the case of theft.
