Council encourages irrigation farming
Councilor for Namabvi ward Twaha Salanje has called upon farmers whose crops have been affected by dry spell and fall army worms in Mangochi district to start practicing irrigation farming.
He made the call a day after the district agriculture development officer had said at least 71,000 hectares of maixe out of 89, 000 hectares of 200, 000 households are heavily affected by the disasters.
Salanje said irrigation farming is viable in Mangochi and farmers can harvest plentiful yields as most of them reside along the lakeshores.
“Mangochi district is blessed with waters in Lake Malawi therefore farmers must use that opportunity,” said Salanje.
