MRA meets religious bodies

Malawi Revenue Authority MRA has called upon religious bodies to pay tax on their businesses.

The call was made on Tuesday 26th Sept 2017 at Mount Soche hotel in Blantyre during one day meeting with religious bodies.

Aim of the meeting was to clarify taxation issues that affect religious bodies in Malawi.

Speaking during the meeting, Head of Corporate Affairs at MRA Steve Kapoloma told the gathering that religious bodies that run businesses have obligation to pay tax.

“MRA is not introducing new taxes on religious bodies but remind them their role to pay tax and various provisions of tax legislations,” said MRA.

He commended religious bodies in the country for being key partners in economic development.

“Religious leaders should issue Electronic Fiscal Device receipts on all goods and services they provide to customers,” Kapoloma said.

MRA also conducted meetings with religious bodies in Lilongwe and Zomba.
