Sudanese donate to Malawi’s flood victims

Sudanese Community in Malawi has donated relief items to over 250 households in the areas of TA Ndindi and Pemba in Salima District.

Speaking to Radio Islam representative of the group Hassan Fadil said they thought it wise to take the responsibility of assisting Malawians who are suffering in many ways.

According to Fadil this relief distribution is a response to an appeal by president of Malawi to assist people affected by floods in Salima and other districts.

“This is the beginning of their plans as they are also part of country and promised more to members of the community in the area,” said Fadil

Fadil who represented fellow Sudanese residing in Lilongwe said some people in Salima are still in camps hence their first donation in the district.

“It is their wish to continue helping people in Malawi but will depend on funds they mobilize as they don’t have the donor,” added Fadil

In his remarks Muslim Association of Malawi Chairman for Salima Ibrahim White commended the Sudanese community for its support to Malawians.

“People in the district are facing hunger due to floods which caused low yields
He further asked for more support from other organizations and well-wishers because over one hundred people are still in emergency camp at Chikowa Primary school,” explained White

He said flood victims are lacking basic needs such as food and clothes.

Saini Joni the representative of District Commissioner commended the Sudanese community for its support to flood victims in Salima.

“We ask government to consider people who lost their houses by constructing others so that they can leave the camp,” Joni said.

One of the beneficiaries James Matenda said the donation was timely arranged and will help his family since he had nothing to eat.

The donation worth 10 million kwacha comprised maize floor, rice, cooking oil and sugar
