Angry People destroy MCP Vehicle in Nselema

Democratic Progressive Party DPP and Youth Support for Social Advancement YOSSA have condemned political violence that occurred at Nselema Trading Centre in Machinga District on 23rd February

Angry people destroyed a vehicle belonging to Malawi Congress Party MCP claiming that they were provoked by boma ndilomweli slogan by MCP members and the confiscation of their fuel by police officers who were in the car

In a statement signed by its spokesperson Shadrick Namalomba DPP says political violence is unacceptable and contradicts democratic principles Malawi upholds

Programs and communications officer for the Organisation Clement Magombo says such acts of violence undermine peace and stability of the nation as the country approaches September general elections and pose a threat to rights and safety of children as well as the youth who are often misused as tools for political conflict

The main opposition party says with 16 September general elections approaching such acts threaten national peace and stability

Therefore DPP demands Malawi Police to launch transparent investigation on the matter and all political actors to avoid inflammatory rhetoric and unsubstantiated accusations

The main opposition party has called on citizens to reject politicians and groups that fuel divisions

It has urged political parties to return to issue based politics, debate policies not personalities.
