
UAE, Malawi discuss Fuel Procurement Deal
Delegation from United Arab Emirates UAE has engaged government officials and private sector players on government-to-government fuel procurement and establishment of a Development Bank among other key issues
Speaking during a meeting at Capital Hill Minister of Trade and Industry, Sosten Gwengwe requested both sides to agree on dates to finalize negotiations of Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (IPPA).
Gwengwe said government officials had asked requested a team from Abu Dhabi to finalize IPPA, but were advised to reschedule the negotiations.
He said are looking forward to finalization of IPPA and encouraged both parties to explore areas of mutual benefit that will yield tangible results.
The Trade Minister said government stands ready to facilitate the necessary processes to ensure smooth and efficient investment implementation and closures between the two countries.
The Minister also revealed that discussions with the government of Morocco are underway to establish a government-to-government fertilizer deal, which would ease the financial burden Malawi faces when importing fertilizers
The UAE delegation included Abdakla Alobeidili, Director of Investment Legislation Management; Abdakla Ahmed Ibrahim, Director of Policies; Abdulrahman Abdulla Naser Salem Aishkelli, Manager of Government and Sovereign Relations at Abu Dhabi Development Holdings Company and Ayesha Saleh Mohammad Ramadhan Alrafi, Specialist for Foreign Direct Investment.
