Organizations call on Youths to challenge President on Campaign Promises

Centre for Youth Empowerment CYESE and Youth and Society YAS have called on youth in Malawi to challenge President Lazarus Chakwera tomorrow on youth empowerment promises made during campaign.

The dual have made this call following Chakwera’s announcement that on Friday he will interact with 100 young people below the age of 30 at town hall to highlight some of the developmental projects his government has made for them for the past 4 years.

But speaking to Radio Islam Centre for Youth and Empowerment executive director Lucky Mbewe while commending the president for interacting with young people in Malawi, he has doubted the rationale behind this saying it could be just a political gimmick to hoodwink the youth in Malawi.

On his part Youth and Society executive director Charles Kajoloweka said it is a golden opportunity for the youth to hold the president accountable.

According to Mbewe the president should not lie to the youth just as he did when he presented the State of National Address SONA in parliament last week.

He advised the youth to ask  the president pertinent questions on developments meant to benefit the youth and if the MCP administration has delivered over the past four years.

Commenting in a separate interview, Youth and Society executive director Charles Kajoloweka said it is a golden opportunity for the youth to hold the president accountable.

The president has come under fire as Malawians are criticizing him for lying on some of the developments he highlighted during the SONA when opening the 51st session of parliament which is under way in Lilongwe.
