Malawi hosts Health Ministers Conference
Vice president Dr Michael Usi has challenged countries in East, central and southern Africa health community to prioritise investment in health infrastructure and fight against maternal deaths to attain universal health coverage by 2030
Speaking during official opening of the three day 74th Health Ministers conference in Lilongwe Usi asked the participants to share knowledge and solutions on challenges being faced in the health sector
He noted that the theme for the conference, “Looking Ahead for the Post Golden Jubilee,” encourages member states to celebrate past achievements and reflect on lessons learned.
Speaking earlier, Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda said the forum would provide opportunities for health ministers and participants to discuss issues that require a unified regional stance.
In her remarks, Lesotho’s Deputy Minister of Health and Chairperson for Health Ministers Conference, Selibe Machoroboane, said the gathering signifies the commitment of member states to tackle the pressing challenges facing the region.
In his remarks, Acting Director General of ECSA, Sibusiso Sibandze said that despite operating in its nine member states, ECSA has expanded its mandate in other parts of Africa with the assistance of developmental partners.
