Sheriffs seize ADMARC’s properties over non-payment of compensation to ex-employees
Sheriffs of Malawi have seized some properties belonging to Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation ADMARC following its failure to honor court judgement to pay back the k12.5 billion to 3,282 former employees.
We called spokesperson of ADMARC Theresa Chapulapula to ask her on the matter but referred Radio Islam to her boss the chief executive officer of the corporation who was not picking his phone
High Court of Malawi had ordered ADMARC to make the payment as an initial part of the K25 billion compensation.
Making his ruling, Judge Allan Muhome directed the corporation to pay the respondents half of the compensation within the next 14 days.
However, speaking to radio Islam, Ex-ADMARC employees leader Alex Malikebu, says two months down the line ADMARC is yet to pay them K25 billion comprising K7 billion as compensation for unfair dismissal and K18 billion for unfair labor practices.
Malikebu said he could not disclose more details and asked us to speak to their lawyers who could not pick up our calls after several attempts.
But Radio Islam has established that the sheriffs have seized two vehicles belonging to ADMARC and other assets which will be sold if the company does not pay the ex-employees their money.
The sheriffs have also ordered the closure of all ADMARC accounts until it pays back the money.
In January 2023, ADMARC fired its entire 4 000-plus staff effective 1st February2023 as part of its restructuring process.
