Court grants bail to Suleman

Court in Blantyre has granted bail to Member of Parliament for Blantyre City South East Sameer Suleman.

Suleman was arrested on Monday for allegedly altering defamatory comments targeting Minister of Local Government Richard Chimwendo Banda, Malawi Congress Party Youth Director Baba Malondela and Minister of Mining Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma.

Appearing before the court Tuesday morning, he has denied libel charges brought before him.

Commenting on the development, lawyer representing Suleman, Bob Chimkango, said it was illegal arrest because the Member of Parliament on duty has immunity.
