Government commissions Battery Energy Storage System Project

Government has commissioned the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Project at Kanengo Sub-Station which is expected to add 20 megawatts of electricity to Malawi’s energy sector

Speaking during the event president Lazarus Chakwera appealed to Malawians to avoid vandalism of ESCOM equipment

Chakwera said the Battery Energy Storage System Project worth 20 million dollars is the first initiative in Africa

In his speech board chairperson of ESCOM Morgan Tembo said the project is expected to improve accessibility and reliability of national power supply from June next year.

Tembo said BESS project will be implemented by ESCOM and Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet.
