Experts ask govt to find strategies to reduce dropout

Civil Society Education Coalition has urged Malawi government to come up with strategies that must reduce dropout rate in schools.

This was said in Lilongwe during a meeting aimed at combating issues which force girls to drop out of schools, strengthen reading skills and create safe learning environment.

Speaking during the meeting Civil Society Education Coalition Executive Director Benedicto Kondowe said the right to education is constitutional.

” Therefore there is need to create a conducive environment for the children to be educated,” said Kondowe.

Commenting on the matter Chief Education Officer for Basic Education Noel Mwango said government is planning to introduce more incentives for teachers who work in rural areas.

“Government appreciates the role Civil Society Education Coalition plays in the improvement of education standards,” said Mwango.

He said among other issues government has embarked on a number of projects such as construction of girls hostels and class rooms to keep girls in school.
