MERA closes Mount Meru filling station for selling fuel in jerry cans

Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority MERA has closed Mount Meru filling station located at Nyambadwe in Blantyre for 30 days for selling fuel to customers in jerry cans

This follows consumers’ complaints which MERA received on 13^th August this year

According to MERA its management verified and confirmed that the service station was selling fuel to customers in jerry cans without authorization from the energy regulator

The Authority says the service station’s conduct undermined equitable distribution and access to fuel

Meanwhile MERA says opening of the filling station will be subject to satisfactory implementation of measures taken to avoid re-occurrence of the malpractice
