Minister of Homeland Security Ken Zikhale Ngoma has announced in parliament saying it is a directive from President in order to rescue Malawians from the challenges they face to access new IDs
Ng’oma says government has also removed the fees which were being paid to replace the expired, damaged and lost ID
He apologized to people in Machinga who converged at centres to register for national identity cards yet officials of national registration bureau did not show up.
Second deputy speaker of parliament Aisha Mambo Adams said absenteeism of many members of parliament in the national assembly is due to fuel scarcity
Member of Parliament for Thyolo central Ben Phiri asked government on reports that Malawi Congress Party supporters participated in operations of Malawi Police Service to relocate refugees and asylum seekers in Salima
However the second deputy speaker advised Phiri to follow right procedure of presenting the matter.
Commenting on the absenteeism, executive director of Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation Michael Kaiyatsa says it is unfair to tax payers therefore the speaker must recover the money paid as allowances
