Court sentences murderers of Masambuka to life
High court has sentenced five people who murdered a person with albinism Macdonald Masambuka, to life imprisonment with hard labor.
The five are Maxwell Matchina Sosola, Cassim White Masambuka, Dickson Manesi Ndengu, Bashir Lilongwe and Alfred Yohane.
According to Judge Dorothy Nyakaunda Kamanga the convicts do not deserve leniency, as they did not show mercy to a victim who needed love.
Judge Kamanga has also sentenced a Catholic Priest Father Thomas Muhosha and four others to 30 years imprisonment on a charge of transacting in human tissue.
The other four are Chikondi Chileka, Alfred Yohane, Innocent Walasi and Mussa Lilongwe.
Kamanga further said Muhosha and Chikondi Chileka a former police officer breached public trust by committing the offense.
“Alfred Yohane, Dickson Ndengu, Matchinga Sosola, Bashir Lilongwe, Master Mphulanya Injesi have been sentenced to 12 years imprisonment while Macdonald Masambuka’s brother Cassim Masambuka has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for trafficking in persons,” Kamanga
Commenting on the matter, Senior State Advocate, Pirirani Masanjala, said the stiff penalties will send a warning to the would be offenders especially found in victimizing people with albinism.
Speaking to the media after the sentence, Executive Director of Legal Aid Malawi, who represented some of the convicts, Masautso Chankakala, said he is going to consult the client whether they are going to appeal.
Judge Nyakaunda Kamanga says the sentences are effected from the day of arrested and will run concurrently.
