Pathologist to appeal against Medical Council of Malawi
Pathologist Dr Charles Dzamalala has instructed his lawyers to appeal against Medical Council of Malawi MCM over its determination on forensic autopsy report of late Kottana Chidyaonga.
MCM board determined that Dr Dzamalala is guilty for concluding that Chidyaonga died of termic poison and that he should be issued a warning letter.
According to a report which MCM produced signed by its registrar for Professional practice, Richard Ndovi, the autopsy report which Dr Dzamalala produced on Chidyaonga’s death was inconsistent with standard practice for performing and issuing pathology reports.
“The autopsy report was produced in January 2020 following the death of Chidyaonga who was reported to have been beaten by a snake,” reads Dzamalala document
But in a statement Dr Dzamalala says he stands by his forensic report that Chidyaonga died due to toxicity of oral termic poisoning.
Dr Dzamalala says he is appealing the determination because the Council has not provided any laboratory backed evidence that the cause of death was not termik but vecuronium bromide.
