Malawi Police Service arrests nurse over cyber harassment.
Malawi Police Service has arrested Chidawawa Minje over cyber harassment.
Confirming the development to Radio Islam, deputy National Police spokesperson, Harry Namwaza, says on April 27th, the suspect used obscene and unprintable words against the head of state through a WhatsApp forum.
Namwaza says Mainje hails from Malothi village, Traditional Authority-T/A Mlolo in Nsanje.
Meanwhile, National Organization of Nurses and Midwives Council of Malawi has asked the police not to identify the person as a nurse saying he did commit the offence in line of duty.
NONM president Charles Simeza says “though they sympathize with the suspect but it is improper to continue identifying him as a nurse as the offence he committed is not related to his profession.”
Last week, Police also arrested 51-year-old Dauka Manondo over a WhatsApp post in which he allegedly insulted Vera Kamtukule, Malawi’s Minister of Labour.
