UDF suspends district governor for dragging ACB director to court
United Democratic Front UDF has suspended its district governor for Chikwawa Frighton Mphompho who is implicated in a court case against ant corruption bureau ACB director Martha Chizuma with respect to an infamous leaked audio
In a statement UDF publicity secretary Yusuf Mwawa says the party learnt with surprise from social media outlets that Mphompho is implicated in issues surrounding the case at Mzuzu magistrate court
Mwawa says UDF is dismayed with Mphompho’s alleged involvement in the case as such actions are serious and bring the party into disrepute by virtue of his position as district governor
“Mr Mphompho is alleged to have acted in his capacity and his alleged actions do not represent the views of the party in this matter,” Mwawa
He said as the party UDF supports the fight against corruption and it was instrumental in the establishment of key government and accountability institutions such as ACB over two decades ago
The party is also on record as having supported appointment of Chizuma as ACB director as well as publically calling for all stakeholders to support her due to ongoing efforts by certain quarters to compromise her in an attempt to obstruct the course of justice
