Government gazettes reduced tollgate fees
Government has gazetted the reduced toll gate fees which will be implemented by Roads Fund Administration RFA
This follows discussions between ministers and human rights activist Bon Kalindo who held demonstrations aimed at asking government to reduce the fees.
According to RFA spokesperson Masuko Ngwaluko, the reduction is effective 12th January 2022.
“The fees have been reduced by almost 40 percent because Light vehicles will now be paying 1000 kwacha from 1700, minibuses will now be paying 2000, from 3200, above 5 to 10 tones will be paying 4000 from 8000 and abnormal load will be paying 20000 among others,” Ngwaluko
Meanwhile, Ngwaluko says the Kalinyeke Toll Gate will be opened soonest.
Meanwhile, human rights activist Bon Kalindo has held government for offering a hearing ear to the concerns of Malawians by reducing the fees.
However, Kalindo says will continue with the planned vigils at Chingeni Toll Gate, adding reducing the toll fees alone is not enough as Malawians continue to suffer due to soaring prices of essential commodities.
