Floods wash away K11 billion Nsanje-Marka road

Floods have washed away part of the K11 billion Nsanje-Marka road which is under constructed by China Railway-20.

This follows the recent heavy rains that have caused havoc in the areas of the Traditional Authority Ngabu and Senior Chief Malemia where houses have also been damaged.

Nsanje District Commissioner Dr Medson Matchaya has confirmed with Radio Islam saying they received reports from communities around the affected road.

The project is expected to be handed over to Roads Authority in the month end of May, 2022.

“We have already reported the incident to Roads Authority,” Dr Matchaya

Meanwhile, Dr Matchaya says 22 families have been rendered destitute after their houses completely fall off in the district.

The District Commissioner says has received emergency kits from the Department of Disaster Management Affairs DODMA to assist the affected families.
