Ban on Aqua Pure Water lifted

Malawi Bureau of Standards (MBS) has said it has lifted the ban on production it initiated on Bowler Beverages, manufacturers of Aqua Pure Water on January 28.

The ban was due to non compliance of both the process of manufacturing and the product with MS 21 and MS 699 mandatory Malawi Standards on Food and Food Processing Units-Code of Hygienic Conditions and Bottled Drinking Water other than Natural Spring Water-Specification.

In a press release from MBS endorsed by its Director General Davlin Chokazinga the bureau has made its assessment and has found Aqua pure company limited fit to continue production of the bottled water.

“Following the suspension, Bowler Beverages Limited undertook steps to redress the shortfalls that led to the suspension of its factory and withdraw of its product from the market. MBS would therefore like to inform the general public and all concerned stakeholders that through its conformance assessments that were recently carried on Bowler Beverages Limited Kanengo Water Plant, MBS found that both the process of manufacture and the product (Aqua Pure Water) conformed to minimum requirements of MS 21 and MS 699,” reads the statement.

Chokazinga said due to this development MBS wishes to inform the general public and all concerned stakeholders that Aqua pure water has been deemed fit for human consumption.

He concludes; “The Bureau further wishes to inform the general public that it will continue monitoring local and imported products and services to ensure that they are manufactured in accordance with minimum requirements of relevant mandatory Malawi Standards to ensure human safety and fair trade practices.’
